Yorks and Humber Green Party

Join the Green Party, here's why

I thought I would write in as a new member. I joined after having met the Green candidate during the election campaign and having been disillusion with New Labour (I was from the start, actually). Seeing Cameron outside No. 10 was the final straw and I joined on the spot.

We need a viable society biased alternative to the neo-liberalism and corporation supporting  politics of the other 3 parties. The Lib Dems are a busted flush having sold everything to get some power. Labour should be ashamed of themselves - they know nothing of their own history. The Tories do what they always do. As for the Milliblands - their father must be gutted.

********

I have just joined the Green Party. I was until May a (dormant) member of the Lib Dems, though I used to be an active member of that party and worked for their council group some years ago.

I have always been interested in green issues. I have been a member of Greenpeace since I was a teenager. I am vegetarian. I use public transport. I identified strongly with the social/Green side of the Lib Dems: the primacy of liberty and democracy, alongside the need for social and environmental action. Over the last few years I have despaired as the Lib Dems have moved ever further to the right. I had toyed with the idea of shifting my loyalties to the Greens, as you were the closest party to me in terms of my politics and ethics. The tipping point of course was that decision in May.

However, my decision to embrace the Greens is much more of a positive decision - I am impressed by this party's commitments to social justice, to changing the unbalanced economy, to establishing a proper secular constitution, as well as its environmentalism. I was also impressed by your activism on the ground - I lived in Shipley until 2007, and campaigned with the councillors there on a few occasions (the extension of Asda and the plan to turn the outdoor market into a car park...).

Karl, Bradford, former Lib Dem.

THINK YOU KNOW THE GREEN PARTY? THINK AGAIN.

Greens are committed to justice in society and for the environment. The huge cuts the Con-Dem coalition have imposed are a major threat to social justice and unnecessary. We're fighting the cuts across the country but the threats to the environment continue.
