There is a new challenge to the traditional political parties with the launch this month of Selby Green Party.
Its first ever meeting will be held on Monday 13th October and they are throwing open the doors to anyone in Selby with an interest in Green issues.
Founder member Caroline Littler (pictured below at a recent Frack-Free event in Selby) said,
“Many people are looking for an alternative to the three main parties and now Selby has one! We will be campaigning against austerity, public sector cuts and especially fracking. This damaging practice is already threatening nearby East Riding and fracking companies have been given licences to frack in this area.
"The Greens are the only party that opposes fracking and we will be pushing to make Selby a frack-free district.”
The first Selby Green Party meeting is at Selby Community Centre on Scott Road, at 7.30pm on Monday 13th October.
Come down for a discussion over tea or coffee to share your views and suggest local issues for future campaigns.
